ARCH 1101 Introduction

Interesting Architecture:
House NA

This Japanese glass house based in Tokyo, Japan was designed by Sou Fujimoto to resemble a living experience amongst trees. The house is sectioned off into small rooms to mirror individual twigs and branches of a tree, but there is full visibility between rooms to symbolise a tree's entirety. The glass house allows for a complete open living experience, yet isolation can also be indulged through the design of 21 individual floor plates spread across the three-storey-house at different levels.

Something beautiful:
'Giants' by Os Gemeos

This photo was actually taken during my visit to Granville Island in Vancouver, Canada. The  juxtaposition between the vibrant colours of these Tin-men and the grey hues of the industrial worksite was what intrigued me. Graffitied by two Brazilian artists, Gustavo and Otavio Pandolfo (Os Gemeos), it is known as the largest attempted painting done by the duo, standing at 70 feet tall with 6 columns. The transformation from 6 concrete silos to a public display of art was created over a month, finishing their non-profit art project in September 2014.

Creative Work:
Corset

This is a textiles garment that I completed, a (non-traditional) corset that is culturally inspired by Thailand. The incorporation of traditional patterned, red Thai fabric combined with gold trim was chosen to resemble Thailand's common use of bold colours. The gold trim which carve out geometric sharp edges and shapes on the side panels of the corset, are inspired by the abundant temples of Thailand. Thailand's beautiful temples beam with gold and are carefully decorated with tiles to form a work of art. Their superiority further shines through their architectural design— elegant, symmetrical yet angular.
